Each environment is configured to run a workflow (that could include data transformation and document generation, management, and distribution elements). These workflows are known as Lasernet Core configurations. Each environment can run a different configuration from the others. Depending on the design of the Lasernet Core system, there could be multiple distinct environments, each hosted by a dedicated server. For example, there could be separate Development, Test, and Production environments. Each Lasernet Core environment is a running Lasernet Core 11 Windows service. > [!NOTE] > Quick Start > > If you follow the [quick start installation process](/v1/docs/lasernet-core-11-installation-guide), the single server that runs the Lasernet Core system hosts one environment (which you create at a later stage of the process). ### Lasernet Config Server Lasernet Config Server runs on one of the servers that is a part of the Lasernet Core system. Lasernet Config Server is the central communication point for all the components of the Lasernet Core system and manages the Lasernet Core configurations that the environments run. Aspects of system configuration (such as user access to the Lasernet Core system) are managed by Lasernet Config Server. Lasernet Config Server includes the following Lasernet Core administration tools: - Manage. This is a new, modern, streamlined, and intuitive user experience for Lasernet Core administrators. All aspects of Lasernet Core administration (including environment management, user management, and licensing) are available, in addition to the ability to view Lasernet Core logs and manage paused and scheduled jobs. - The Lasernet Config web app. This is the legacy web app for Lasernet Core administrators. The Lasernet Config web app will be deprecated in a future version of Lasernet Core. > [!NOTE] > Quick Start > > If you follow the [quick start installation process](/v1/docs/lasernet-core-11-installation-guide), the single server that runs the Lasernet Core system hosts Lasernet Config Server. > [!NOTE] > Note > > Manage is installed as part of Lasernet Config Server. In addition to enabling administrators to complete Lasernet Core configuration and administration tasks, Manage enables users to [view job queues and perform basic job management tasks such as editing JobInfos, rescheduling, viewing, and removing jobs, and releasing paused jobs](/v1/docs/manage-lasernet-jobs). > > > > This capability replaces Lasernet Web Client (which was included in earlier Lasernet Core versions). ### The Lasernet Core Server Installer Use the Lasernet Core Server installer to install the Lasernet Core service and Lasernet Config Server. ## Server Software Installation Process Follow the quick start installation process or the full installation and setup process on this page. > [!NOTE] > Note > > **About the quick start process:** The quick start process is a simpler route to an operational Lasernet Core system and it requires only basic IT knowledge. However, it results in a system that is suitable only for demonstration or trial purposes. For more information about the quick start process (and its inherent compromises), see the main [Lasernet Core 11 Installation and Setup Guide](/v1/docs/lasernet-core-11-installation-guide) page. > > > > **About the full installation and setup process:** The full installation and setup process describes all available installation and setup options and is suitable for setting up production Lasernet Core systems. However, parts of it require some IT and database administration knowledge. ### Quick Start Installation Process > [!WARNING] > Important > > You must be signed in to the server as an administrator. If this occurs, the following page will persist in your web browser when you try to [sign in to the Lasernet Core administration tool](/v1/docs/sign-in-to-the-lasernet-core-administration-tool). > > ![The Initializing configuration databases message that is displayed when the Lasernet Core administration tool is starting.](https://cdn.document360.io/c831ef63-c6b3-48ee-b443-3e33644e4e2e/Images/Documentation/initializing configuration databases(2).png) > > > > If this occurs, right-click the **Lasernet Config 11** service in the **Services** window, then click **Restart**. > > ![A red rectangle indicates the Restart menu item for the Lasernet Config 11 Windows service.](https://cdn.document360.io/c831ef63-c6b3-48ee-b443-3e33644e4e2e/Images/Documentation/restart Lasernet Config 11 service.png) After installing the Lasernet Core server software, the next step of the [Lasernet Core 11 installation and setup process](/v1/docs/lasernet-core-11-installation-guide) is to [install Lasernet Developer on the server](/v1/docs/install-lasernet-core-11-client-software). ### Full Installation and Setup Process > [!WARNING] > Important > > You must be signed in to the server as an administrator. 1. Ensure that all [hardware and software system requirements](/v1/docs/lasernet-core-system-requirements) are satisfied. 2. Create a Microsoft SQL Server database for Lasernet Config Server to use. - You must create the database in a named SQL Server instance (rather than the default instance). This instance must be on the same server as Lasernet Config Server or on a server that Lasernet Config Server can communicate with. - Ensure that a database user that has permissions to create and alter tables, and insert, update and delete rows, is available for Lasernet Config Server to use. This can be the `sa` user, or it can be a created user that has appropriate permissions. - There are no manual database configuration requirements. Any necessary configuration is made automatically by Lasernet Core. - Ensure that the database **Collation** is case-insensitive. For example, `SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS`. 3. Copy the Lasernet Core Server installer to any location on the servers that will host Lasernet Core environments or Lasernet Config Server. The installer file name is `Lasernet Server 11.<minor version>.<patch version>.msi`. For example, `Lasernet Server 11.0.0.msi`. 4. On each server that will host either a Lasernet Core environment or the Lasernet Config Server, or both, use the Lasernet Core Server installer to install the Lasernet Core service or Lasernet Config service (or both) on the server: 1. Run the Lasernet Core Server installer. > [!NOTE] > Note > > A Microsoft Defender SmartScreen window might appear. The options provided vary depending on your organization’s IT policy. Click **Run anyway** if that option is available to you. 2. On the **Welcome** page, click **Next**. 3. Accept the terms of the license agreement, then click **Next**. 4. Check that the default installation location is suitable and change it if necessary, then click **Next**. 5. Select which installer features to install: - **Lasernet Service:** Install this feature if the server will run a Lasernet Core environment. - **Configuration Server:** Install this feature if the server will run Lasernet Config Server. > [!NOTE] > Note > > If necessary, you can select both **Lasernet Service** and **Configuration Server**. 6. On the **Ready to Install** page, click **Install**. 7. After the installation is complete, click **Finish**. > [!NOTE] > Note > > If you selected the **Lasernet Service** feature, the [Lasernet Monitor tool](/v1/docs/lasernet-monitor-11-guide) is also installed. This standalone desktop application enables you to read activity logs for Lasernet Core environments. > > > > To view logs through a web application, you can use Manage. For more information, see [Lasernet Core Environment Logging](/v1/docs/lasernet-environment-logging). After installing Lasernet Core server software, the next step of the [Lasernet Core 11 installation and setup process](/v1/docs/lasernet-core-11-installation-guide) is to [install Lasernet Developer on client computers](/v1/docs/install-lasernet-core-11-client-software). #### Extra Actions If Lasernet Config Server Is Installed on the Same Server As SQL Server When the Lasernet Config 11 service (Lasernet Config Server) starts, it connects to its SQL Server database. However, if Lasernet Config Server is installed on the same server as SQL Server, at server startup, the Lasernet Config 11 service might start before SQL Server is ready to accept connections. If this occurs, the following page persists in the user’s browser when they try to [sign in to the Lasernet Core administration tool](/v1/docs/sign-in-to-the-lasernet-core-administration-tool) and the [Lasernet Config Server log](/v1/docs/location-of-the-lasernet-server-settings-file) contains database connection errors. ![The Initializing configuration databases message that is displayed when the Lasernet Core administration tool is starting.](https://cdn.document360.io/c831ef63-c6b3-48ee-b443-3e33644e4e2e/Images/Documentation/initializing configuration databases(3).png) To prevent this issue on servers that host both Lasernet Config Server and SQL Server, ensure that the Lasernet Config 11 service starts after SQL Server. Some possible solutions are to: - Set the **Startup type** of the Lasernet Config 11 service to **Automatic (Delayed Start)**. - Configure the Lasernet Config 11 service to depend on the relevant SQL Server service. You can use the `sc config "<name of service to modify>" depend= "<name of service to depend on>"` command to achieve this. If Lasernet Config Server starts before is SQL Server ready, restart the Lasernet Config 11 service.
