Crashes or Instability Can be Caused by Third-Party Services Locking Lasernet Files

Prev Next

Some third-party tools and software (such as antivirus software) might lock Lasernet Core application files. This can cause Lasernet Core to crash or become unstable.

These tools monitor file changes on drives and lock modified files in order to process or scan them. However, Lasernet Core requires exclusive access to its runtime folder, and its files must not be locked by third-party software.

To prevent this from occurring, configure antivirus tools, backup applications, the Windows Indexing Service, and anything else that might lock folders on the Lasernet Core server to ignore the following folder:

  • Lasernet Core 10 and Lasernet Core 11.0: %ProgramData%\Formpipe Software\Lasernet <version>

    • Substitute <version> for the installed version of Lasernet.

  • Lasernet Core 11.1 and later: %ProgramData%\Lasernet\Lasernet 11

Alternatively, disable the third-party service (if appropriate).

Additionally, it is best practice to configure these tools to ignore:

  • Folders that contain grab files, because they can be filled with thousands of small files that the tools will take a long time to process.

  • Folders used by File Input or File Output modules, because usually many files pass through them.

Identify the Lasernet Core Runtime Folder (Lasernet 10 and Earlier)

To identify the Lasernet runtime folder, follow these steps:

  1. Click Server in the Tools menu, right-click your server in the main Lasernet Developer area, and select Edit. The server’s Properties window opens.

  2. Click the General tab. The Server runtime data directory is at the bottom of the window.

A red box highlights the Server Runtime Data Directory server property.
